Advanced Fraud Detection Suite (AFDS) Settings
The Authorize.Net Partner Interface now enables partners to board merchant accounts with default fraud filters. The fraud filters are part of Authorize.Net’s Advanced Fraud Detection Suite (AFDS). You can set general defaults across merchants, and you can customize them on a per-merchant basis.
Setting Default Filters for all Merchants
Step 1 Navigate to Account > Boarding Defaults.
Step 2 Click the AFDS Defaults tab.
Step 3 In each of the five filter areas, select an action from the drop-down menu. This action will be taken whenever a transaction is caught by the filter. Some areas have text fields where you can assign specific amounts of transactions.
Step 4 Click Save.
Once the fraud filters are set, newly boarded merchants inherit the filter settings configured on this page. Merchants can review and change the settings as needed.
Default fraud settings are available in the Add Merchant page. From there, you can configure settings for all merchants, or on a per-merchant basis. For more information, see
Adding a Merchant.
Understanding Fraud Filters
AFDS filters enable you to set rules through which to filter transactions to catch possibly fraudulent transactions, as well as setting the action to take when the filter is triggered. The Partner Interface supports configuring the following fraud filters for merchants:
Table 17 Fraud Filters
Filter Name | Filter Description |
Daily velocity | Specify a limit on the total number of transactions received per day. |
Hourly Velocity | Specify a limit on the total number of transactions received per hour. |
Transaction IP-Velocity | Specify a limit on the number of transactions received from the same Internet Protocol (IP) address per hour. |
Fraud Pattern Filter | Examines transactions based on proprietary transaction behavior analyzed by our Fraud Management team. |
Transaction Amount | Sets lower and upper transaction amount thresholds. |
Actions that can be taken for each fraud filter are:
Table 18 Filter Actions
Action | Description |
Process as normal and report filters triggered | The transaction is processed normally, but is reported in the Merchant Interface as having triggered the filter. |
Authorize and hold for review | Authorizes the transaction but does not submit it for settlement until it has been reviewed. The merchant has 30 days to manually review and either approve or void it. We recommend these transactions be processed within 72 hours. Any transactions the merchant approves are sent for settlement. If no action is taken in the 30-day period, the transactions will expire. This action is useful if the merchant wants to review authorized transactions prior to submitting for settlement. |
Do not authorize, but hold for review | Does not authorize the transaction until it has been reviewed. The merchant has 5 days to manually review and either approve or decline the transaction. Once the transaction is approved, it is sent for authorization. If no action is taken in the 5-day period, the transaction will expire. This action is useful if the merchant wants to review transactions prior to authorization to avoid incurring any associated authorization fees. |
Take no action (disable the filter) | This setting disables the filter. |
